Wisdom Forum

wisdomu

Wisdom Forum is a weekly half-hour program hosted by Dr. Jim Garrison designed to explore important contemporary and political issues that are relevant to the Emerging Wisdom Culture, an emerging new group of individuals around the world who espouse a new value system that will under-gird our next phase of human development as we move into an intensely ecological phase of our history.

The weekly programs will highlight many of Wisdom University’s faculty and individuals in its international network of visionaries, scholars, researchers and global activists. Wisdom is a timeless virtue that strangely seems to have little currency in our crisis-ridden world where power, wealth and prestige dominate the agenda and sex, violence and sensationalism permeate the media. Yet, if we had more wisdom, our leaders would rule more justly, our economy would be more equitable, and the world would be a far better place. Wisdom has become critical for contemporary society because we are in an era of unprecedented integration framed within the turbulence of escalating uncertainty.
The central theme of the Wisdom Forum is that we have most, if not all, of the social and technical innovations needed to solve our problems already available, and there is now a burgeoning population of people around the world who embrace a value system capable of supporting these innovations and designing a better world.

The shows host, Dr. Jim Garrison, is an author, scholar and social entrepreneur dedicated to catalyzing social change. From organizing conferences that gather the world’s diversity and developing constructive action-oriented initiatives and organizations, to speaking and interweaving a wide and varied range of subjects, Dr. Garrison has dedicated his life to ‘transforming conversations that matter into actions that make a difference.’ Garrison is currently president and chairman of a graduate academic institution that explores both ancient wisdom traditions and the wisdom culture shaping our future today. He is also founder and president of, a San Francisco based non-profit institution with a global network of leaders dedicated to developing a more sustainable global civilization. With President Mikail Gorbachev as its convening chairman, the Forum brings leaders from around the world and representing a spectrum of disciplines to its conferences, and has catalyzed the creation of several independent organizations.

Born in China, Dr. Garrison grew up in Taiwan. He received a B.A. magna cum laude in World History from Santa Clara University; a double M.T.S. in Christology and History of Religion from Harvard Divinity School; and a Ph.D. in Philosophical Theology from Cambridge University. He has written seven books, including his two most recent: Civilization and the Transformation of Power (Paraview Press/2000); and America As Empire: Global Leader or Rogue Power? (Barrett Koehler/2004).
