Don Mathisen |
Don Mathisen is a New York City radio and television journalist. He's currently program director of the Internet based PRN radio network. Areas of responsibility include supervising staff, acquiring new programming and scheduling. He also hosts a newsmaker interview program on the network, voices weather reports for radio stations in Texas, Maine, Indiana and Ohio and does a weekly "Letter from New York" heard on WUTC in Chattanooga.
Before joining PRN, Mathisen spent 12 years at Bloomberg News. During his tenure at Bloomberg he worked as a television and radio anchor, reporter and producer. He also spent time as a multimedia producer preparing audio, video and text for distribution on the Bloomberg terminal and via the Internet. Television assignments included hosting a weekly business news program on the USA Network, local news inserts for CNN Headline News and anchor of Bloomberg's all-news television network. Radio assignments included WBBR anchor, market reporter based at the New York Stock Exchange and business news syndication anchor for stations in dozens of markets.
Prior to Bloomberg, he worked 11 years at WNYC radio and television. Highlights included years as a political reporter covering the Koch, Dinkins and Giuliani administrations, as well as general assignment and the criminal justice beat. His last assignment at WNYC was executive producer of the daily television news program "News City," supervising a seven-person staff.
His first broadcasting job in New York was as a reporter and writer for WMCA's all-news morning show. He also spent time doing Shadow Traffic reports for various stations including WINS.
Before coming to New York, Mathisen worked as a reporter, anchor, commercial announcer and disc jockey at stations in Connecticut, upstate New York, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
Mathisen, who was born in Brooklyn and grew up in New York and Long Island, currently resides in Manhattan. He has two daughters, the younger one is a college student and the older daughter owns her own tutoring business. |
